Authors’ Outlines

This is J.K. Rowling’s outline for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I am not a writer but the process fascinates me. The mind of an author must work overtime when they’re writing a book.rowling_outline2

There are several other outlines of famous works of literature in this article by Emily Temple.

I use OneNote for rough draft outlines, but once I get to the proofreading, I go pure pen and paper–as in, I go to the store, buy a cool notebook, and start jotting down major notes as I read through the rough draft of the manuscript. I remember watching one special where Rowling had a huge portfolio-like thing of notes for the entire series! I am a naturally disorganized person, but I have to have my notes in notebooks or else my mind will go to crap.

I tried to do something like this once… it was rather successful. But I did not look back at it when I was writing my 2nd novel. LOL
