When George and Bella―a homeless alcoholic and his intimidating German shepherd―disturb the peace outside her studio, yoga instructor Kate Davidson’s Zen-like calm is stretched to the breaking point. Kate tries to get rid of them before Bella scares the yoga pants off her students. Instead, the three form an unlikely friendship.

One night Kate finds George’s body behind her studio. The police dismiss his murder as a drug-related street crime, but she knows George wasn’t a dealer. So Kate starts digging into George’s past while also looking for someone to adopt Bella before she’s sent to the big dog park in the sky. With the murderer nipping at her heels, Kate has to work fast or her next Corpse Pose may be for real.

Murder Strikes a Pose is a cozy murder mystery about Kate who owns a yoga studio. She befriends George, a homeless man, and his dog, Bella. Soon after they become friends, George is murdered in Kate’s parking lot. She feels like the police aren’t doing enough to find his killer (maybe because he’s homeless?) so she starts investigating on her own. At the same time, she is taking care of Bella until she can find a new home for her. Taking care of Bella is not an easy task because she has an illness and because she’s a big dog who goes crazy when she sees other dogs or men with beards.

I like Kate. She’s an independent woman who is willing to take a risk by starting her own business. She also has a keen sense of responsibility. She doesn’t have to take care of Bella and she doesn’t have to try to find George’s murderer but she can’t just let things take their course. She’s a little immature when it comes to relationships, but she’s trying to improve her relationship skills.

The narrator of Murder Strikes a Pose does a good job. Once in a while I wasn’t sure who was talking, but most of the time it was easy to tell.

Although Murder Strikes a Pose is predictable, I enjoyed listening to it. If you like a cozy mystery, I definitely recommend it.
