What is the Longest Book Title in the World? by Alexander Atkins

atkins-bookshelf-booksAccording to the Guinness Book of World Records, the book with the longest title in the world contains 5,820 characters (1,022 words). The book, about Daniel Radcliffe who played Harry Potter in the popular movie series, was written by S. Subramonian, the former principal of Dr. R.V. Arts and Science College in Karamadai, India. The title begins with “Daniel Radcliffe the story of the not so ordinary boy chosen from thousands of hopefuls” and after about 1,000 words ends with “whom let many more laurels be blessed with to his ever royal crown of fame.

The paperback book, published in November 2007, contains 123 pages. It features an 8-page pull-out section with stereoscopic color photos from the Harry Potter movies. The 3D images can be viewed with anaglyph glasses that are included with the book.

In an interview, Subramonian explained that it was his daughter, who loved reading the Harry Potter books, that inspired his book: “Harry Potter is one book that has evoked reading interest among the people. The character of Harry Potter portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe has had a great influence on the youth. Hence I have written a book on him. His virtues of charity, humility and the urge to excel in life in the face of challenges will help children and youth look up to him as a role model.”

On Amazon, the book is simply listed as: Daniel Radcliffe… (1,022 words).Upon close reading, it is clear that the title, a dreadfully long run-on sentence, was not carefully proofread (eg., use of favourite and favorite, random underscore characters between words, inconsistent date formats, punctuation outside the quote marks, etc.). Bookshelf presents the entire title of the book with the longest title in the world, complete with its original errors:
