Chicken wakes up in a backyard in the middle of the city with no idea who he is or how he got there.  He meets Jack, a black squirrel who thinks he’s a dog, and Lupito, a possum.  His new friends offer to help Chicken get through the fence in the backyard, but Chicken doesn’t know which way to go.  Lupito decides to take Chicken to see the King, a rat who knows everyone and everything that happens in the city.  But, along the way, the group encounters some dangerous situations they must escape before they can help Chicken with his memory.

My Review

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

This is a cute chapter book about a chicken who finds himself in someone’s yard and has no idea how he got there or who he is. His new friends, Jack and Lupito, try to help him.

Not only is this book cute, but it teaches children about helping others. Jack and Lupito help Chicken, and Chicken tries to help some strangers even when his new friends want to look the other way.

I definitely recommend this book for young readers who are ready for chapter books. The cover is great, and the only thing I missed was more pictures within the text, maybe between chapters.

About the Author

C.L. Kovacik is the mother of two who likes to push herself to always do
better and work harder. She has published a horror novel that will be
republished in Fall 2022 with plans to start writing a second horror novel. Her biggest influences have been Dr. Seuss, Stephen King, and Edgar Allen Poe. She has been reading and writing since she was a little girl and says she hopes to continue writing as she gets older and wiser.

About the Illustrator

Taylor Gillion is a growing author of sci-fi and fantasy novels. Her debut
and the first of a sci-fi/fantasy series, The One Called Mignonette, will be
published in 2023. She was born in Greenwood, South Carolina where she spent her younger years in the countryside. She now lives in Virginia
Beach with her husband and children. Her creative side extends well-past her love for writing. She enjoys her day job working as a dog groomer and spends her free time painting and drawing with her children.
