I started selling used books online in 1999 as sleepygirl2, and opened my first storefront, Sleepygirl’s Used Books, in 2003. I enjoy my work and have wanted to start a blog for a while because I want to share my love for reading. I find a lot of interesting and funny things about books as I browse and this is the perfect place to share them. I also review books I read, which are often from authors or publishers, but I don’t receive any compensation for the reviews. Sometimes I come across an interesting book that I’ve purchased that I like to share on here as well.

That’s great. I am hoping to open my own storefront as well. It’s a life long dream, that I am slowly working on.

It’s not easy if that’s your only source of income but I love it. We started selling furniture along with the books in 2004, which has made it possible for me to be at the store full time. I know it doesn’t sound like they go together, but it has worked out really well.
I wish you luck. I am a firm believer in following your dreams and enjoying what you do.

I couldn’t believe I wasn’t following your blog. I don’t get to read other blogs real often. I have to make myself stop and catch up. There’s just too much to do!

Oh just checked out your store! My goodness! What an inventory! I always test a bookstore using Abe Kobo works; like those that Alfred Knopf would choose. Most don’t have any at all. Two or three of his works and I’m impressed with the bookseller’s taste. You’ve got an 18-page list!

Unfortunately, I only have an online store now. I had a brick and mortar store several years ago and had about 20,000 books online and over 100,000 books in the store. After we lost it all in the Joplin tornado in 2011, we opened a store in Baxter Springs, Kansas, but it’s more like a flea market, although we do have some new inventory as well. I miss my bookstore but we found out a long time ago that it’s almost impossible for us to have 2 separate stores and this one was the more profitable one.
