My Review

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy from iRead Book Tours. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

This is a great book for all children. It explains in terms they understand how anger may feel and how to handle it. I like that when the adults give the little girl choices on how to handle her anger, they give two or three choices.

The illustrations are colorful and realistic; anyone can look at them and know what the people are feeling.

At the end of the book is a section for adults about helping children to deal with anger. It explains how to spot anger in children of different ages as well as ways to encourage healthy anger expression.

Sometimes When I’m Mad is a great book for children to read and learn about anger management, but it is also an important resource for caregivers to help children to deal with anger.

My Review

I have read a couple of Elizabeth Cole’s books so I knew that My way to keep anger away would live up to its name and teach children how to deal with feelings of anger.

When Melissa’s brother breaks one of her toys, it’s the last straw, and her usual sweet demeanor suddenly changes. She’s so mad that she goes to bed. That night she dreams of being in the ocean and the different animals teach her ways to deal with her anger using techniques such as counting to ten, taking deep breaths, etc.

The story is told in rhymes and the illustrations are cute and colorful. It encourages children to use their imaginations as well as giving them anger management techniques that work.

About the Author

Being a mother of two kids Elizabeth Cole very well understands that childhood is a great period of life filled with a tremendous amount of different and often changing emotions. Since the time Elizabeth received her master’s degree in psychology from University of New Orleans in 2008, she fully devoted herself to the research of kids, understanding their needs as well as their true emotions. Her five years period of working as the school teacher very much improved Elizabeth’s knowledge and motivated her even stronger. Finally, all of her experience inspired Elizabeth to write a series of children’s books.

Book Review: I am Stronger Than Anger by Elizabeth Cole

Tired of telling your child not to shout or kick things when they are angry? Then this book is the perfect solution for you!

When children are angry, they can manifest their anger through bad behavior. They might shout, cry, throw things and roll on the floor or all of these things combined. That’s why most parents need help managing their kids emotions and feelings.

This book about little Nick:

  • contains lovely illustrations and lightly rhyming storyline
  • helps children recognize and cope with their anger in a funny way
  • offers a variety of calming techniques and is aimed to improve kids self-regulation skills
  • teaches children to admit their mistakes and say “I’m sorry”
  • includes a coloring page

“My three-year-old son still can’t read, but he is delighted with the funny illustrations of animals. He turns the pages over and over again.” – Amanda

“This story has helped my preschoolers to understand, recognize and deal with their emotions. Very useful picture book which offers fun kids activities and is full of amazing illustrations.” – Jennifer

Even if you have tried everything, this book is perfect for gaining a deeper understanding of children anger management and how to help kids control their emotions. We highly recommend it to parents.

In this delightful story, Nick is told he can’t get a koala, and he gets angry. He learns how to deal with anger from the animals at the zoo. What a fun way to learn for both Nick and any children reading this book!

The story is told in rhymes and the illustrations are cute and colorful. I especially like the adorable animals. It’s bound to keep the attention of children plus they learn different ways to cope with anger. It also teaches them to own their behavior and apologize.

The only issue I have is that << >> are used for quotes most of the time instead of ” “. Occasionally, a quote with ” ” is thrown in making it more confusing. If not for that, I’d give this book 5 stars.

Book Review: I Feel Angry by Aleks Harrison

Are you looking for a book that will help your kids manage their emotions better, pick up essential social skills and recognize anger in a healthy and positive way?

Anger is one of the most difficult emotions for children to manage. More often than not, a book is the best way if you want to teach kids how to handle their emotions and manage anger. This book is a practical guide for parents who want their kids to have better emotional health.

Max feels the telltale signs of anger when his dad says it’s time to leave the playground, when he’s tying his shoes, and when he’s at school. Each time, his dad (or his teacher) helps him to deal with that anger in different ways. Whether it’s by deep breathing, doing something else, or counting backwards, the suggestions work for Max and would work for most kids.

I Feel Angry not only has good suggestions for helping children deal with their anger, it also is presented in rhymes, and the illustrations are bright and colorful. The rhyming and illustrations will keep the attention of children. Books like this one are great. They are not only books that children want to read, but they teach as well.
