Book Review & Giveaway: Christmas in Paradise by Deborah Brown

My name is Madison Westin. Unless it’s Christmas, in which case my official title is “Holiday Cheermistress.” Nothing stops me from getting my ho-ho-ho on, not even my friends’ Grinch-worthy attitude toward sparkling tinsel, twinkling lights, and tinkling bells.

Hey, if Creole, Fab, and Didier wind up with coal in their stockings, it won’t be my fault.

When some bah-humbug bandit makes the rounds of Tarpon Cove, Fab and I are on the case. It’s the least we can do for our loyal friends. Seasonal crime-victim disorder seems to be on the rise.

Some guy in a Santa suit—well, the top half of one anyway—is robbing local banks. The cops are fingering the wrong guy. And you can bet your light-up Rudolph boxers that if we can’t track the real thief down, one of my merry band of miscreants could be spending the holidays behind bars.

The Paradise series, are Florida Keys mysteries, “great as stand-alone reads, but they’re like chips…you won’t be able to devour just one!”

My Review

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

I have read several of the Paradise books and I’ve enjoyed them all. Madison and Fab and their boyfriends Creole and Didier make a great foursome. Madison and Fab seem to get themselves into trouble and they’re often able to get out of it. If they can’t do it, Creole and Didier will show up to save the day.

Christmas in Paradise isn’t quite the same as the other books in this series. It’s mostly about the Christmas season celebration by the Westin family with a little humor and crime thrown in for good measure. And there’s a surprise ending!

The Paradise books stand on their own but I wouldn’t recommend reading this one first since it’s more about spending Christmas with your favorite characters rather than a mystery and there’s not the usual character and relationship development.

About the Author

I’ve been writing, in one way or another for as long as I can remember; poetry, sappy short stories (my best friend made me swear that I’d never show anyone until I changed the names), and a romance novel shoved under my bed.

I wanted to create books with a wide-range of unforgettable characters, with heat and romance, and lots of guns. It wouldn’t be complete without a slice of humor and charm.

I live with my family and demon children aka rescue cats in South Florida.

My Review

I have read several of the Paradise books and I was looking forward to reading this one. The Paradise books are full of action and mystery but are also quick, fun reads.

Madison Westin and her best friend, Fabiana, are always getting into trouble. Their boyfriends, Creole and Didier, and their mother’s boyfriend, Spoon, often have to get them out of scrapes but only when absolutely necessary. Fabiana is able to get them out of almost any situation with her sweet talk or her gun, whichever is appropriate (in her mind).

This time Madison and Fab are in trouble because of Madison’s ex-husband. Creole tries to put them in protective custody but he should know better. They have a mystery to solve! Of course, they can’t solve a mystery without getting into some trouble.

Deborah Brown’s writing flows well and is easy to read. This book is full of action, suspense, and humor. No matter what is happening, there’s always room for a little humor in the Paradise books.

Anyone who likes women’s fiction, mystery, or suspense will like Kidnapped in Paradise. Even though it’s seventh in a series, it does stand on its own. I highly recommend it and I hope there will be more of these books in the future.

About the Author

I’ve been writing, in one way or another for as long as I can remember; writing poetry, short stories, a romance novel secretly stashed under the bed and sappy love letters. Fiction should be fun. I wanted to create the perfect beach book, to make the reader laugh, cry and cheer… and then run out and tell their friends about it.

My love of reading began when I was seven, the day I opened the cover of my first Mrs. Piggle Wiggle book. Mrs. P gave lessons to other children in how to behave and to me I learned to love the written word. I live with my family and demon children aka rescue cats in South Florida.

My Review

I read Crazy in Paradise and I jumped at the chance to read Greed in Paradise because Crazy in Paradise was a quick, fun read. I wasn’t disappointed.

Madison Westin is at it again. She and her best friend, Fabiana, are constantly getting into trouble. Fab’s boyfriend and Madison’s wannabe boyfriend have to get them out of scrapes, or be there for them after near misses, over and over.

This book is full of action and suspense as well as romance and humor. Deborah Brown’s writing flows well and is easy to read. The characters are colorful and lovable (except for the bad guys, of course).

Anyone who likes women’s fiction or suspense will like Greed in Paradise. I’m looking forward to reading Revenge in Paradise in the near future.
