Just when Fawn Malero was getting comfortable in her new life….

Fawn was enjoying her new-found career as a Supernatural P.I., settling into a relationship with the Werewolf, Logan, and figuring out how to interact with all the supernatural creatures living in the Seattle area. But it never occurred to her the water off the shore was also under her administration…that was until they started crawling out to beg for help.

Before she knew it, Fawn was on a quest to learn who was attempting to steal the magical properties of the ocean, where a powerful Vampire’s daughter was being held captive. And could she catch the Magician who’d been selling dangerous items to humans?

Of course, she wasn’t alone. The posse she’d collected were still with her and determined to help. If she was going to make it as a P.I. she wasn’t going to do it without backup.

Guest Review by Sal

A great supernatural mystery story with diverse world building and a fantastic plot! ‘Supernatural P.I.’ by Courtney Davis has everything that I love in a book of this genre. A strong female main character, a steamy romance and an interesting fantasy setting.

Fawn Malero’s version of Seattle is filled to the brim with vampires, werewolves, elves, shifters, witches, magicians and just about every other type of supernatural being that you can think of. But having all of those different supes in one place makes for a lot of inter-world problems, and someone needs to be there to solve them.

Enter Fawn Malero, the Supernatural P.I. Fawn is a Magician with the ability to communicate with animals, amongst several other powers. Because of this she is a vegetarian, and she keeps a lot of pets.

When a woman begs her for help to find a missing stone that is supposed to have the ability to control the seas, Fawn feels duty-bound to give her the help she needs. The woman turns out to be an octopus shifter named Eldoris, and the stone is one that once belonged to Poseidon himself but has now been lost to a human fisherman.

It takes all of Fawn’s P.I. know-how to locate the stone and get it back, and then she has a whole new problem on her hands when she has to decide which branch of the supernatural community gets to keep it. With help from her troll friend, Betina, and her half-elf, half-witch friend, Annabel, Fawn must find a way to appease all of the supernaturals in Seattle and do so before any more disasters take place.

This was such a great book that it made me want to go back and read the first book in the series to see where the story began!

Praise For A Life With Beasts by Courtney Davis

The Fawn Malero Mysteries Book 1

“A Life with Beasts is a story of intrigue and attraction that is especially recommended for mystery readers who enjoy more than a light dose of paranormal encounters and a touch of romance.”-D. Donovan, Midwest Book Review

“a fun adventure/mystery. Courtney Davis brings a fresh perspective to the supernatural creatures we are all familiar with without sacrificing the original ideas associated with them. She creates an exciting world of werewolves, vampires, witches/warlocks, magicians, trolls, and many others.
The book is easy to read and fast-paced. It’s a great read for the summer holidays or when you want a light, fun read. Can’t wait for the sequel!
Also, there is a healthy dose of romance, which can tend to be a bit much for those who don’t read romance (like me). However, Davis has done a great job of making the romance central to the plot, so I found it quite enjoyable.”- Writa Bhattacharjee, GoodReads

“This was a fast read and I really enjoyed it. It gave me some high school Twilight memories but brought more supernatural beings into play. There were several mysteries and problems being solved but they didn’t feel. I found the characters likeable and funny.”-Sara, GoodReads

Short Story Review: Mortal Veil by Vanessa Fewings

About the Book

(from Goodreads)

With no recollection of the last three years of his life, Zach Harris finds himself stumbling back down the rabbit hole when his new friend Feebs takes him searching for answers. The only clues: a mysterious bank deposit of a half-million pounds and Zach’s branded-black tattoo of a raven. Their quest for the truth will lead them to the seediest parts of London, and Zach will have to face the unspeakable truth of a past better off forgotten.
A short story from V.M.K. Fewings’ beloved Stone Master’s series, “Mortal Veil” features familiar characters in the always-sexy Belshazzar’s night club, favorite hangout of England’s most wicked vampires. Fewings brings vampire fiction back to its Anne Rice roots with dark deeds and delicious monsters. Fans eagerly awaiting Fewings’ new release Dominon will love this return to the world of nightwalkers, and new readers will get their first taste of this thrilling series that gives vampires back the dangerous allure they’ve held on readers since Dracula first hit shelves.

My Review

I received a free ecopy of this short story for an honest review.

I ran across this short story on my TBR list and didn’t understand why I hadn’t read it already since it’s only 26 pages. I figured out later that it’s book #2.5 in the Stone Masters Vampire Series. It actually stands on its own as a short story, though.

The main character, Zach, has lost the last 3 years of his life. He has no memory of where he’s been or what he was doing. His new friend, “Feebs,” decides to help him try to figure it out.

What they find is a shock (to them and me). This was a good short read. Now I’m definitely going to have to read the rest of this series!

Lily Coltrane’s to-do list for starting university life is pretty simple:

1. Make friends

2. Meet a cute guy

3. Survive her first year in Modern History

In the little English town of Piketon this seems more than achievable, so much so that Lily even joins The Illustrious Minds Literary Society, an extra-curricular club that promises a truly unique social experience. What Lily doesn’t bank on are the society’s monthly visits to the mysterious Theatre Imaginique at the edge of town, a dark venue that houses the most obscure cavalcade of carnival performers she has ever laid eyes on.

Stranger still is the emergence of the theatre’s enigmatic proprietor Lemarick Novel, a stupendous showman with a frosty wit who never seems to smile, and who raises a plethora of questions in Lily’s fearful mind. How does he levitate with no sign of wires or mirrors? Why do the lightning bolts that shoot from his hands look so real? And why, of all the people in the theatre, do his pale eyes keep locking on hers?

The answers to this and more lie buried in heritage and blood. The Book of Shade is opening, and Lily Coltrane will read it, whether she wants to or not.

My Review

I received a free ecopy of this book for an honest review.

The Book of Shade is the first book in the Shadeborn series and is a young adult fantasy in which our world not only has humans, but there are vampires, werewolves, and other beings including Shades who can control all of the elements.

The main character, Lily, finds out that she is a Shade and is actually excited about it from the start. She starts training under Novel, who owns and performs in a local theatre. I found all of the characters unique and interesting, but I was unable to connect with Lily.

The story was kind of slow for the first half but the second half was exciting and even had a couple of surprises. I’m glad I have the next book on hand so I can start reading it immediately.

Book Review: Adam by Teresa Gabelman

22051230Title: Adam (The Protectors #5)

Author: Teresa Gabelman

Genre:  Paranormal Romance

Publication Date:  June 24, 2014

Description (from Goodreads):

Half-breed vampire, Adam Pride, has an almighty chip on his broad shoulders. Trying to move on after finding Angelina married to another, Adam has a decision to make. Remove the chip and move on or kill the man who took what he wanted most in the world, his Angel.

With his heart in pieces, Adam’s on a mission to become the best VC Warrior he can be. It’s not long before fate steps in, turning his world and life as he knows it upside down. Shocking revelations will realign allegiances and draw the VC Warriors onto a new path. This journey is not Adam’s alone. Every Warrior, half-breed and human will be affected by what is to come. The unknown awaits. The battle has just begun.

Review:

I had the privilege to be a beta-reader for Adam. I read Duncan and Sid, #3 and #4 in the series, and was hoping I’d get to beta read this one as well.

I’ve read 3 of the 5 books in the Protectors series and one of these days when I have the time I’ll go back and read the first two books in the series. I couldn’t wait for this one to come out after reading Sid and Duncan.

Teresa Gabelman’s writing is easy to read and flows well. I always enjoy her sense of humor as well.

I liked Adam because some questions were answered. There wasn’t as much of the character Adam in the book as I expected though. This was more like a continuation of the previous stories, tying up some loose ends, and it would be difficult for someone to read it without reading at least one of the previous books.

If you like vampire romances, I recommend Adam but I also recommend reading the other books in the series first.

Description: Dylan has found herself in quite the conundrum…oh shit, who are we kidding?
She’s ass deep in death and it’s knocking down her door. Literally.
Endless Night left you with your heart pounding and your stomach in your butt…book three will flip you upside down and take you on a ride that’ll leave your knees quivering and your head lying on the floor…literally.

Review:

I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

I always enjoy RM Gilmore’s stories. Her character, Dylan Hart, is unique. She’s opinionated, foul-mouthed, and stubborn but she has a heart of gold

Sacrifice picks up where Endless Night left off. It is nonstop action and continual sexual tension between Dylan and two men (she never does anything in a small way). And, of course, Dylan still can’t keep her mouth shut even if it might get her killed.

RM Gilmore has a great sense of humor. Even when Dylan was in a dire situation I found myself laughing. My favorite line was when she was on her way to kick some butt and she thought, “F***. I have to poop.”

Book Review: Sid by Teresa Gabelman

Sid fc

Title: Sid (The Protectors #4)

Author: Teresa Gabelman

Genre:  Paranormal Romance

Publication Date:  expected January 5, 2014

Description (from thebookvamps.us):

Renowned for his playboy lifestyle and wisecrack remarks, Sid Sinclair knows he is the last pick for the lead investigator of human/half-breed trafficking. Never one to play by the rules, Sid takes his new position seriously, but not without driving the leader of the VC Council and fellow Warriors crazy.

A human with a special gift, Lana Fitzpatrick’s life is complicated. When Sid Sinclair charges into her life, her complicated life becomes torturous; his charm and wit draws her in like no other. Having dealt with alpha men most of her life, she is a match made in heaven for the VC Warrior who thinks he is God’s gift to women.

As the world of vampires and humans try to coexist, Sid and Lana’s lives intertwine. It doesn’t take long before the sparks between the two fly and for them to realize they have both finally met their match.

Review:

I had the privilege to be a beta-reader for Sid and read it as an advanced reading copy. I read Duncan, #3 in the series, and was hoping I’d get to beta read this one as well.

The characters are interesting and engaging. As the series progresses, you really get to know all of the VC Warriors and their significant others. The main characters in this book are Sid, and the woman he meets, Lana. They make a good pair and I enjoyed their story, but I really like the ongoing stories of all of the characters.

The writing is easy to read and flows well. Teresa Gabelman also has a great sense of humor.

When I think of vampires, I think of violence, blood, gore…not in this case. This book is full of love, lust, and humor.

If you like vampire romances, I highly recommend Sid.

This is the time to let inhibitions go. This is the time of the Bohemian. The Stone Masters Vampire Series: A Vampire’s RiseA Vampire’s Reckoning, & A Vampire’s Dominion). Mortal Veil Stone Masters 0.5 short story.

Review:

I received a free copy of the book for an honest review.

Bohemian is the fourth novel in the Stone Masters Vampire series but it gives enough background information that it stands on its own. If you like sexy vampires, this is definitely a book for you.

Ingrid is a great main character. She’s headstrong, independent, a go-getter, and she breaks the rules only when necessary. She’s also madly in love with Jadeon, a vampire who wants her to stay away from him for her safety. The story is from Ingrid’s point of view and Vanessa Fewings does a good job of explaining her thought processes, giving you a good idea of why she does most of the things she does.

Bohemian keeps your interest from the first sentence and never slows down. I had trouble putting it down once I started it. The writing is easy to read and the story flows well. One thing that I did have trouble with was following who was talking during some of the conversations and I had to stop a few times to figure out who was saying what.

I definitely recommend Bohemian, especially if you like vampire stories with the element of everlasting love.

Available on Barnes and Noble or Amazon.

Blog Tour Review and Giveaway: Cerberus by P.K. Gallagher

cerberusTitle: Cerberus: Book 1 of Parish

Author:  P.K. Gallagher

Genre: Paranormal YA Fantasy

Description:

For Kaeden Parish, life in Solace has always followed certain rules—everything makes sense, everything can be planned for, and everything is as it seems. Unfortunately, the secret harbored by his gorgeous, albeit guarded girlfriend is about to shatter all of that.

After a successful attack on his life opens his eyes to a world of war, shadows, and supernatural creatures—a world he didn’t plan for—Kaeden finds himself resembling the sort of monster he has always feared. As he desperately struggles to resist a new temptation, danger draws ever nearer, threatening the ones he loves most. A prophecy tells of a final battle and great destruction, and Kaeden must decide which side he is on, a choice that could mean the end of the world.

In Book 1 of the Solace Series, P.K. Gallagher pulls readers into a realm where good and evil are at war, and the outcome of it all rests on one young man’s decision to either go and live…or stay and die.

This is where the story of Parish begins.

Review:

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Cerberus is a paranormal fantasy complete with vampires, dryyds, demons, fallen angels, and, of course, clueless humans. The action starts right away in a bookstore of all places. I don’t think I will be going to the dumpster behind my bookstore any time soon unless it’s in the light of day and there are plenty of people around.

Kaeden’s character is well developed and I felt his frustration throughout the book. A couple of times I wondered why in the world he couldn’t just do what he was told but then he wouldn’t be Kaeden.

I noticed a reference to It by Stephen King…love it! And what an ending! Now I have to wait for the next book in the series…

I definitely recommend Cerberus, especially if you like the vampire world. Available on Amazon.

Gallagher graduated from Florida A&M University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a fervent desire to never set foot inside a newsroom again.

She currently lives in Atlanta and divides her time between working a day job, finishing her works in progress, and perfecting her plans for world domination.

Review: Duncan by Teresa Gabelman

7-17-2013 8-22-05 PMTitle: Duncan (The Protectors #3)

Author: Teresa Gabelman

Genre:  Paranormal Romance

Publication Date:  July 2013

Description: The VC Warriors are an elite group of vampires who protect innocents, whether human or those of their own race.  Duncan Roark has not been himself since the disappearance of Pam Braxton. When he and the other Warriors do find Pam, she’s pregnant and scared but she agrees to go with them.  Duncan promises that he’ll keep her and her baby safe. But can he and the VC Warriors keep that promise when the man who abused and raped her is still on the loose?

Review:

I had the privilege to be a beta-reader for Duncan and read it as an advanced reading copy. I hadn’t read the first 2 books in the series so I didn’t know what to expect. This book does stand on its own but I’m looking forward to reading the others when I have time. And I’m hoping there will be a #4 in the series.

The characters are interesting and engaging. Not only do you want to cheer on the romance between Pam and Duncan, but the other characters will keep you interested. Some of them are entertaining and others a little intense. I often read books in which the reader only gets to really know the 1 or 2 main characters but Teresa Gabelman did a good job at developing several of the secondary characters as well.

Warning: there is a lot of swearing. There is a little violence but not as much as you’d expect in a book with vampires.

If you like vampire romances, I highly recommend Duncan. Available now from  Amazon.
