Description (from Goodreads): IN THE WILDERNESS OF RUSSIA ten-year-old Natalia falls through a cave portal known as the Liquid Diamond and lands in a world filled with mythical creatures. Here amongst cockatrices, blemmyes and elves, Natalia meets Catalyst, a boy of half-human, half-krusnik vampire hunter descent. The two – along with their huge and hairy Basajaunak herdsman friend – are thrown into a quest to find the crystals that keep the portal locked shut. Without the crystals in place, war will break out between the human world and the kingdoms in the other realm. Friends at her side, Natalia must face unknown evils or lose her own home for good.
Review:
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
Liquid Diamond is a children’s fantasy that starts with Natalia falling through a portal and, because of that, she is sent on a mission by the king to find the crystals that keep the portal locked and will stop an impending war.
This book is full of mythical creatures and primarily takes place in another world that is similar to ours in some ways but so different in other ways. Sebastien Blue has a vivid imagination and is very detailed about his fantasy world.
The main character, Natalia, is a young girl but she’s independent and faces challenges head-on. I thought she was very mature for her age. She and Catalyst, her new friend, go on the quest together and become very close.
This is a fantasy for older children and young adults. I often enjoy this genre but it was difficult for me to get into this book and it was confusing at times. In addition, the print was so small that it was hard on my eyes and there were also a lot of missing question marks.
Available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
