I enjoy Sarah J. Pepper’s writing so I jumped at the chance to read the first 2 books in The Fate Trilogy.

Forgotten (The Fate Trilogy #1)

Gwyneth’s chronicle began long before she witnessed her family being brutally murdered and lost her sight. Living as an orphan, her world is anything but black and white. She sees her vivid future that promises suffering and death. Cursed with these visions, Gwyneth pretends to be like everyone else, until a dangerously charismatic, young man walks into her life. From the moment Jace lays eyes on her, he refuses to believe Gwyneth is normal. He knows information about her past that only a psychopathic stalker could dig up. He reveals her dirty secrets. Unbeknownst details of Gwyneth’s former life unfurl.
Unsure of what to believe, Gwyneth searches for answers that lead to her inconceivable fate. However, the ancient truth she uncovers is more dangerous than any high school romance she’d bargained for. Gwyneth is drug into an inevitable battle brewing between immortal Gods and ageless Hunters – both of which have sworn to swear to kill her if deemed necessary.

My Review:

I was confused through the first half of Forgotten but my guess is that is what Sarah was aiming for. Most of the time, the reader just knows what Gwyneth (or Winnie) knows, and she’s in a state of confusion throughout most of the book.

I like Sarah’s style of writing. I did get tired of the same memories being repeated over with just a little added each time. I’m not sure if there would be a better way to accomplish what she did, but I found myself skipping to the end of those memories.

The relationship between the 2 main characters, Gwyneth and Jace, is one of those one-of-a-kind loves. The problem is that Gwyneth doesn’t remember Jace even though her body does, which is even more confusing for the poor girl.

If you like young adult fantasy/romance you’ll definitely like this book.

Twisted Games (The Fate Trilogy #2)

For years, deities searched for the Fate Sisters, but they weren’t alone in the pursuit. Their biggest rivals, the Hunters, sought the sisters as well. It was a sick, demented race of who could find them first… and then kill them. Gwyneth trusted no one, not even her beloved, Jace. For if he knew what she had planned, he’d be her greatest enemy.

My Review:

In the second book in The Fate Trilogy, Gwyneth has accepted that she is the Chronicler and one of the Fates. This book was less confusing after having the background of the first book. I don’t recommend reading Twisted Games without reading Forgotten first.

I still felt like there were too many memories, although I understand that they were important for the story. I think the main thing about them was that I was rereading the same memories several times.

Sarah has good character development. I really felt like I knew the main characters. There were times I wanted hug them, slap them, and of course, I did cry with them. As for the rest of the characters, I decided that no one can be trusted.

Twisted Games is a young adult fantasy with romance and several twists. I’m looking forward to reading the last book in the trilogy.
