Henry and the Hidden Treasure is an imaginative adventure a young child has in defending his pocket money against his little sister. Henry constructs elaborate defensive measures that he is sure will stand up to the clever ambitions of Lucy. Little does he know, Lucy has a few tricks of her own.

With a focus on introducing children to the use of ordinal numbers, Henry and the Hidden Treasure also draws out some important qualities of being a kid – such as creativity, the value of listening to parental advice, and of course, being nice to your sister.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

What an adorable children’s book! Henry and the Hidden Treasure is about a boy who wants to hide his money from his sister instead of putting it in the bank, which his parents want him to do. He has such a wonderful imagination that his “treasure” is definitely secure, or so he thinks. 

The illustrations by Lenny Wen are colorful and will keep any child’s attention. They go along with Henry’s imagination very well. There’s not a lot of text, but there’s just the right amount to teach children the power of imagination and the use of ordinal numbers. This would be a fun book to read aloud. I may have to get a copy of this book for my niece for Christmas. She’ll love it!

BCR Fegan is an award-winning author who has written a number of fairy tales and fantasies for children and young adults.

Raised on a small hobby farm only minutes from some of Australia’s greatest beaches, Fegan grew up inspired by the power of natures ambience. From the intensity of the frequent summer storms, to the overwhelming serenity of a lonely beach in the early hours of the morning.
