Book Description:

Whenever I’m asked “which is the best camera?” I pretty much respond: “the one you have on you.” In fact, most of the images in this book were taken with my cell phone simply because I always have it with me.

This is not only a book about street photography but a visual diary, or collection of quirky, unusual and sometimes just plain weird photos I’ve taken over the course of the last decade.

As a street photographer, I need to be an assiduous walker. My sneakers often take me to little known, hidden corners, seaweed strewn (and sometimes stinky) beaches and really cool back alleys of my rather small island city of Victoria, BC.

I’ve also included images of curiosities I’ve seen throughout my travels.

Everyone sees the world differently and this is my collection of the quirkiness that I call life.

My Review

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. I had read To Be a Child and India by Debra Schoenberger so I was looking forward to reading this book also.

Walk with Me is full of amazing photos taken by Debra. This collection is a mixture of different photos from different times and places. I wish I could see things like she sees them through the lens. She notices details that most of us never even see. I can look through this book over and over and notice new things every time.

This would make a good coffee table book. It’s a book to pick up over and over to look at the photos again and again. It is a book for all ages to enjoy.

About the Author / Photographer

Debra Schoenberger aka #girlwithcamera

“My dad always carried a camera under the seat of his car and was constantly taking pictures. I think that his example, together with pouring over National Geographic magazines as a child fuelled my curiosity for the world around me.

I am a documentary photographer and street photography is my passion. Some of my images have been chosen by National Geographic as editor’s favourites and are on display in the National Geographic museum in Washington, DC. I also have an off-kilter sense of humour so I’m always looking for the unusual.

INTERVIEW WITH DEBRA SCHOENBERGER:

What makes for a good travel camera?

That would depend on the type of photography you are interested in.  Do you like street photography, landscape photography, macro or would you rather have a

n automatic

point-and-shoot?

There is a new camera on the market that looks pretty good, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 V.  It can be found here:

https://goo.gl/SNEYgb

Because the new generation of cell phone cameras are so good, they often replace a smaller point and shoot.

What do you look for when buying a camera?

When looking for a camera online, I choose a few that have features that I like within my price range.  Then I go to a camera store and hold the camera in my hand for fit and try out the different features.  I’ve discovered that what looks good in theory, doesn’t always feel good in person.  I have a small hand so the camera has to be small enough to be comfortable in my hands.

What do you look for when buying a camera bag?

I prefer a camera bag that doesn’t look like a camera bag.  I like a big, wide strap and plenty of

padded

protection for my gear.  A photographer who happens to be a woman, developed camera bags for women that can

be

custom made.  You can choose the size, style and fabrics / leathers.  It’s pretty cool.  I love my bag.  If it gets dirty, it gets a wash.
