I started the online store Literary Book Gifts as a way to bring some of the best loved literary classics to life on shirts and tote bags. I have always fostered a great love of reading. I think that all great novels should be talked about and shared. Every design starts with a story. I carefully consider who the author is, whether the novel is horror, or a fairy tale plays an important role in the design. This is the first step in ensuring the design captures and portrays the general theme of the book, and ultimately it’s readers. Next I scope out the preliminary artwork. If I have something in mind I will go for it and get started. Otherwise I will have a look around at old book covers to see if anything is available, usually these are hard to find and I typically don’t like how they look. In this case I will scope out old vintage images. Following this, I remaster the image or images and in some cases typography until it is ready for print.
