This book has a timely
message as the UK attempts to struggle out of the chaos of Brexit. It asks the
question, should the majority carry the vote? If the answer to that question is
yes then we have a lot to consider. Do our leaders always serve us well? Have
they got our interests before their own? Should we just follow like sheep? The
author asks some searching questions and finds some disturbing answers. This is
a book that needs to be read – before it is too late.

“When I started to write this, the thought that was the uppermost
in my mind is how our leaders are misleading us all. As I said right at the
beginning, we have been guilty in the past of trusting blindly the leaders and
those in authority over us, just because they are in the position they are in.
Now when we see what is happening in the UK, in America and in many other
places in the world, perhaps we realise that if we choose a blind man to lead
us, then our world will turn into darkness. Do we really know what people are
thinking? Do we really know that we’re not being fed poison drip by drip, so
that our hearts and minds are changed?

This
is not a time for leaders who have selfish ambitions. What we need in our lives
are servant leaders, not those who place themselves in power over us as lords.
There is only one Lord, and that is the Lord God, and with him caring for us,
there is no need for us to follow blindly in ways that may not be good for us.
God has a plan for you, and he will be the one who will guide your destiny if
you trust in him. You can be very much less certain of what will happen to you
if you put your trust in human beings.

Now
it is time for us to take back the power to ourselves. I’m not suggesting that
we use violence to take over the reins of power. With God as our Guide, we need
to find a way to change the world in a peaceful and quiet way, and a way that
is validated by goodness, fairness, and the desire to have all people treated
equally. A movement has started in the area of climate change, where frequent
demonstrations, many including children taking the day off school, to make a
difference in the world that they will inherit. This is the kind of change that
we need, and we also need to do what we know is good for us, and that is aligned
with integrity on Christ-like grounds.”

About the Author

Meverly A. Benjamin is a Dutch national and a seasoned finance analyst, development consultant, speaker and author, with fluent multilingual abilities in English, Dutch, and Twi. My Dream was her debut novel. The inspiration behind this novel was Meverly’s real-life struggles as a single mother against prejudice and various hardships following her divorce. Eric has a miserable
childhood in a violent, drunken family in a tough London housing estate. He
compensates by looking for perfection. For him, this means worldly success in a
diplomatic career as far away from his childhood as possible. His single-minded
ambition comes at a price. It makes him leave his childhood sweetheart Katie
behind, since he knows that she can’t keep up with him. Their ways part. Eric
marries an upper-class woman and becomes an Ambassador. However, Katie and he
never quite lose touch. After his wife’s death Eric and Katie come together
again. There is action and pace, fun and sadness, a huge variety of life
experiences and a sense of providence and redemption.

“Katie cried herself
to sleep. The next morning she woke up with a heavy head and a terrible
anguish. The worst had happened to her. Eric did not want her. He was not going
to marry her. She felt as if the floor had fallen from under her feet. She
could not fathom it. He was not going to marry her because it would make her
unhappy. That just wasn’t true. She might not have understood everything, but
as she knew she made him happy, of course happiness would have followed in a
marriage. She would not have demanded anything; she was content for him to rule
the roost. He knew better anyhow.

There had to be some hidden reason for him
not to want to marry her. She knew and felt that he loved her. Was it perhaps
something connected to those deep, dark moods of which she had the odd glimpse
on the occasions when he had got drunk in her company? The depth of those dark
feelings had frightened her. She realised that she knew only patches of his
character and what drove him on.

To the world he was jolly and superficial.
What had he wanted? Now that she thought about it, Katie remembered how at the
beginning he had tried to interest her in history, art and music, but seeing
that she did not have the same enthusiasm, he had given up on that. He had
tried to teach her card games, but she had no card sense, and it had had to be
given up.”

About the Author

Ulla Marita Beattie was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1945, which explains why many of her stories have a Nordic flavour. She has travelled widely and has lived in Austria, Russia, Cyprus, Belgium and Switzerland.Since 1997 she has been based in London, with frequent visits to France. She is married and has two daughters, now grown up. She has had a lifelong interest in children’s stories, particularly those read to her own and other people’s children.
