Book Review & Giveaway: The Perfect Tear by Connie Lansberg

the-perfect-tear

Eleanor, a timid orphan, has no clue to her real purpose, but she also has no desire to become a subservient old maid, like the miserable nuns she is forced to with. Eleanor believes Edward, whom she loves, will save her from being forced to take vows. She knows Mother Superior has no intention of letting her leave–her songs are the only thing keeping the grey mist at bay. Her devastation is complete when she discovers Edward is a prince and heir to the throne, but it is the impetus she needs to leave the safety of the abbey and go in search of her long lost father.

She doesn’t get far before discovering her true destiny. With only her instincts to protect her, she must match wits with a powerful being intent on the destruction of her world. If she does not find The Perfect Tear and release its healing power into the land, she will become an accomplice in the destruction of all she loves.

My Review

I chose to read this book after receiving a free ecopy. All opinions in the review are my own and completely unbiased.

The Perfect Tear is a young adult fantasy about creators of new things using vibrations. They compete to become the Main Creator who is currently Tsera. The winner of the competition can compete against Tsera to become the Main Creator. Lerion wins the competition but when he learns the rules of competing against Tsera, he knows it will be difficult to win. He has the option of declining, but his ego won’t allow him to do that.

The creation that Tsera is most proud of is a planet like Earth. It comes into play in this competition and it’s possible that it could implode.

Eleanor lives on this planet and she is a Singer like her mother. Salvation of the world falls on her shoulders but things don’t go as planned. Her father is supposed to tell her all she needs to know when she turns 16, but he is no longer in her life. Tsera does what she can to help but it’s not clear whether Eleanor can find the Perfect Tear with just the help of friends.

I enjoyed The Perfect Tear once I got into it. It was a little confusing at the beginning with the creators and talk of vibrations and their energy, but it was difficult to put down once Eleanor’s story began.

The characters are complex and interesting. I especially like the story of Lalycri and Mrs. Nix. That part is sad but kind of funny. I also like how even the creators are able to grow and become less selfish.

Even though Eleanor is stuck in a convent with orphans until her father comes back, she still falls in love. It’s not one of those unbelievable instant true love stories, though. It is true love but it develops over time.

I definitely recommend The Perfect Tear for anyone who likes fantasy.
