Had it come back? No, it couldn’t have. He had buried it for good. Or at least that’s what Scott told himself. But what if it had? Was that why the scarecrow now watched him?
But the more Scott tries to ignore it, the more the evidence begins to pile up. So do the bodies. Because sometimes, the dead don’t stay buried. Sometimes the monster survives.
As the bodies mount, and the secrets of his past grow more haunting, Scott must do whatever it takes to save his family. But what if by doing so, they find out what happened all those years ago? What if they realize what he did?
Scott learns that there is no escape from his own past, or the crows that have crawled out of it. He can only watch, as his life is turned into a living nightmare.
My Review
I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
The beginning of Nightmare was a bit slow and confusing. Once I got into it though, wow! Talk about a page turner! Each time something new from the past was revealed, it changed my whole perspective. And the things that made no sense to me finally fell into place. I know that’s vague, but I don’t want to give anything away.
Scott had a horrific experience when he was young, and it was difficult to read about. I found myself cringing through a lot of it. There were some things that seemed unrealistic, such as Scott’s fear of crows, until you learn what happened to him. Other things can be explained by Scott hallucinating. Then, as with many horror novels, there were a couple things that are unrealistic but make a good story.
Nightmare is a must read for anyone who likes psychological horror. I look forward to reading more by Chad Nicholas.
