Book Review: Hopes & Slippery Slopes by Trixie Silvertale

A dangerous race. The peal of wedding bells. Will this psychic sleuth catch a bouquet or a bullet? Mitzy Moon finally has a chance to spend a normal, murder-free day with family. And she’s super-excited to support her legendary snowmobile racer dad as he’s honored for his place in the record books. But instead of a celebration on the podium, she finds a corpse under the snow.

With a holiday wedding at her bookshop looming, it’s a terrible time to take on a new case and an orphan. Somehow, Mitzy hopes to juggle the investigation, the nuptials, her meddling Ghost-ma, and an interfering feline. But when her new house guest sees something he shouldn’t, her secrets start to unravel…

Can Mitzy solve the case before midnight strikes, or will her resolution end in tragedy?

Hopes and Slippery Slopes is the eleventh book in the hilarious paranormal cozy mystery series, Mitzy Moon Mysteries. If you like snarky heroines, supernatural misfits, and a dash of romance, then you’ll love Trixie Silvertale’s twisty whodunit.

My Review

I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

It seems that Mitzy Moon can’t go anywhere without trouble showing up. This time she’s at her first snowmobile race where one of the coaches is found dead. He’s been murdered and there are several viable suspects.

Lately, she and her sheriff boyfriend, Erick, work together on cases because he knows she’ll investigate with or without his consent. Unfortunately, they don’t get too far into this case when he finds out that she’s been hiding her gifts from him. He’s understandably upset with her, and she’s afraid she’s lost him for good.

The characters in the Mitzy Moon Mysteries are unique, flawed, and loveable. Mitzy is smart, hilarious, and determined. She and her dad are getting closer, and it’s nice seeing her family expand. I like Stellen, the teenager that Mitzy has taken under her wing. He’s a good kid who’s had a rough time the past few years, and he’s so smart!

Hopes & Slippery Slopes is another fun paranormal mystery. When I think back to the first book and compare the Mitzy then to the Mitzy now, she has really grown. She’s still stubborn and hilarious, but she’s learning to trust others and continues to increase her circle of family and friends. Although this book stands on its own, I recommend reading all of the books in order to get the most out of the series.
