My Review

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

When Alicia finally gets a tablet for her birthday, she’s excited to learn about all of the games and apps her friends talk about. Her parents talk to her about being safe, as all parents should. When someone wants to be her friend on one of the games, she doesn’t respond as her parents taught her.

Megan, one of Alicia’s friends, is an example of what not to do as a young person online. She posts a picture of her cat dressed up, and in the background are pictures of her family and a banner from their school as well as a stack of books on the desk. A predator would have a heyday with all of the potential information in that one picture. Even though this is a good example of what not to do, I was disappointed that it wasn’t pointed out by anyone.

Alicia Connected: The Big Gift is a chapter book for middle school age readers. Along with the lesson about being online, it is a sweet story about being a good friend.
