My Review

I chose to listen to this book after receiving a free audio copy from iRead Book Tours. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

This is the second book in the Empire of the House of Thorns series. A lot of it is from the viewpoint of Justice Kasric, but there are parts about others from the third person POV. I liked this book better than the first because there was more action.

Justice at Sea starts where the first book ends with Justice, Faith and others at sea. A lot occurs including Justice becoming admiral to lead ships to battle (at 15-years-old!), meeting a dragon, going back to the mansion where everything began…and that’s just part of what Justice does! Faith and Henry also have their own struggles.

The poor Kasric family has gone through so much, and now they’re on both sides of the Human-Faerie War. Justice and Faith need to find Henry and try to help their other family members, which is easier said than done. I liked the ending, but no spoilers.

The narrator was very good. She did great with the voices, and her pace and timing were perfect. Because of the narrator, I think I enjoyed the audiobook more than if I would have read the book. I am getting ready to listen to the next audiobook in the series as I type this.

About the Author

Christian Klaver has been writing for over twenty years, with a number of magazine publications, including Escape Pod, Dark Wisdom Anthology, and Anti-Matter. He’s the author of The Supernatural Case Files of Sherlock Holmes series, but has written over a dozen novels, both fantasy and sci-fi, often with a Noir bent. He’s worked as book-seller, bartender and a martial-arts instructor before settling into a career in internet security. He lives just outside the sprawling decay of Detroit, Michigan, with his wife, Kimberly, his daughter, Kathryn, and a group of animals he refers to as The Menagerie. He’s also a part of the Untitled Writer’s Group based in Ann Arbor for the past decade or so with a bunch of equally starry-eyed dreamers and social misanthropes.
