CHAPTER ONE
SARAJANE

The mountains were hard this time, as I was only traveling with Tristan, Alana and Mirium. We had split up once Morrick arrived back to Aquaterra. He had just returned from the mortal world, where my mum and my sister Jessica returned to bury our father John, well, he wasn’t my father. I only found out recently I was the daughter of King Morrick, that made me a princess.

Being a Princess was something I was finding hard to get used to. So we were a day ahead of Morrick, Legis his guardian and Kiar, one of mine who wasn’t speaking to me, as he blamed me for his best friend Neve‘s death. I blamed myself, to be honest; he had died saving my sister, even against King Morrick’s wishes not to do so. It was easy for him as it his daughter. I was.

So we going to Hummus where I would trained to use my powers, which I would have to use to save Saskia. Right now I was being trained to fight, and it was relentless. “Sarajane, you were not focused. I could have killed you three times already,” Tristan said, looking very unhappy with my performance so far. We had been training for only two days now and he expected me to beat him, the man who could disarm 13 men in minutes. I had witnessed that myself.

“Tristan I was trying.” I wiped sweat off my forehead using my free hand; the other held a wooden sword with which Tristan had carved for us to practice.

            “Not hard enough Sarajane.”

That’s it. I had enough, and I threw down my wooden sword.

“I am taking a break.” I stomped off, and Tristan’s sarcastic voice followed me.     “Oh yes, when someone is trying to kill you, you can call in a break.”

            I could hear him tut.

“Alana” he called then I could hear the sounds of wood striking wood. Alana was a good friend as well as my personal guard, Tristan trained her, when he had found her as a child, after her family and village was slaughtered. She attacked him with her fire affinity and he took it away by accident, not a gift anyone else possesses in Saskia, so to defend herself, he trained her in combat.  She was really good. I followed the sound of running water until I found a stream flowing through the mountain. Kneeling down, I scooped up a handful and splashed it on my face. I dabbed the back of my neck to help cool down my body.

Saskia was pure in all its beauty. When something was white it was snow white, or if it was tall it raged into the sky, nothing seemed to be in half-measures. I sat by the stream crosslegged and closed my eyes, just letting the moment of peace surround me.

“Sarajane.” I kept my eyes closed as Tristan sat down beside me. “I just worry that you will get hurt.” Tristan’s voice was so serious that a smile tugged at my lips; as I looked up into his moss green eyes, my stomach flutters because he was ruggedly gorgeous. He bent over and kissed me softly. This was the first time we were alone since leaving Aquaterra, where he told me he loved me. But we decided to keep our love a secret just for now; there was too much going on at the moment.

“Mmm I missed your kisses,” I said against his lips. He raised an eyebrow, while a little smile played on his face. When Tristan smiled, it melted me; he looked that divine and his smiles were so rare. When I first met him, he spent all the time being so serious that I couldn’t imagine what would ever make him smile, but it was something that I seemed to make him do.

            “I missed yours, too.”

I wrapped one arm around his neck, pulling him closer to me, while my other hand explored his bare and muscular chest. He took my hands off his neck and chest and held them.

“Sarajane, no,” he said while leaning his forehead against mine. I could see he was breathing hard.

“I can’t be distracted”.

“Not even a little,” I said and kissed him again. His eyes opened quickly, his nose flaring.

“No we need to train you in case I am not around, or Alana.”

I didn’t like the sounds of that.

“Why would you not be around, Tristan?” He smiled at my terrified face.

“I gave my word I would protect you, but it’s a justincase situation. I had no intentions of leaving you unguarded.”

            I relaxed against his shoulder.

“Good,” I said, feeling content here with him, if only we could stay like this forever, or even just a little while longer.

            “Ready to train again?”

I let out a heavy breath.

“No.” But he got up and pulled me to my feet.

“Come on. Just one more hour for today.” He practically dragged me back, but as we got closer he returned to serious Tristan, letting go of my hand. Alana was making arrows for her new bow that Tristan was teaching her how to use. She had advanced to the next stage,. Lucky her.           “Okay I don’t want you to attack me. I need you to deflect my blows,” Tristan said while throwing me a wooden sword. Mirium sat beside the campfire watching us. But I looked away, trying to concentrate really hard. Tristan attacked: hitting my knuckles with the sword.
